About Kielder Forest & Water

Plan your visit with confidence

RambleMetric is a real-time conditions app for Kielder Water and Forest Park — England's largest forest and the largest man-made lake in northern England. Kielder has exceptional dark skies, red squirrel, osprey and a vast network of cycling and walking trails in one of England's most remote landscapes.

Kielder is genuinely remote — the forest tracks are long, facilities are widely spaced, and phone signal is patchy. The reservoir is cold year-round — water safety applies near the lakeshores. Weather changes rapidly in the Border Hills above the forest.
