Luskentyre beach has tidal rip channels between the sand bars — do not swim. The ford across to the dunes is tidal and can trap vehicles — check levels before crossing. Many coastal paths on Harris are pathless across bog and rock — navigation skills required. Tell someone your plans and carry emergency whistle and first aid. Nearest hospital is in Stornoway (Lewis). Always carry full waterproofs regardless of forecast — rain can arrive in minutes with westerly conditions.
