Safety Information
The main visitor centres (Kirroughtree, Clatteringshaws) are the best starting points. The 7stanes mountain biking trails are excellent year-round. Merrick from Glentrool is a full-day commitment — start early and carry full equipment. The Raiders Road forest drive (seasonal) is a scenic low-level alternative. The park is outstanding for red kites — a Galloway success story. Midges can be severe in summer in sheltered forest areas.
