What to Expect

Routes, landmarks & what to bring

Routes
Classic — Pumlumon Summit Hard
14.5 km · 5–7 hrs · Wales's remotest mountain experience. Trackless peat bog, no phone signal, weather changes rapidly. Map, compass and GPS essential. Not suitable for inexperienced walkers.
Key Landmarks
💧
Source of the Severn & Wye
Two of Britain's greatest rivers — the Severn (354 km, Britain's longest) and the Wye (215 km) — both rise within metres of each other on the Pumlumon plateau. A remarkable geographical fact in one of Wales's wildest places.
🌿
Cambrian Mountains
Pumlumon is the highest point of the Cambrian Mountains — the remote upland spine of Wales, sometimes called the 'Green Desert of Wales'. One of the least visited upland areas in Britain.
