What to Expect

Routes, landmarks & what to bring

Routes
Classic — Ben More Summit Hard
13.5 km · 5–7 hrs · Scotland's most challenging island Munro — very steep, very boggy and fully exposed. Full mountain gear essential. Check CalMac before travelling.
Key Landmarks
🦅
White-tailed Eagle
Mull has the UK's highest density of white-tailed eagles — reintroduced from Norway in the 1970s. These enormous birds (2.4 m wingspan) are regularly seen over Loch na Keal and the coastal lochs. Golden eagles are also resident.
🦦
Otter
Mull's rocky coastline is one of the best places in Britain to see otters — most active at dawn and dusk on the kelp-fringed shores. Loch Don and Loch Spelve on the south coast are particularly reliable.
🏛️
Iona
The cradle of Scottish Christianity — St Columba brought Christianity from Ireland to Scotland here in 563 AD. The abbey and nunnery ruins are among Scotland's most important historical sites. Ferry from Fionnphort.
