6.5 km · 2–2.5 hrs · Walk the coastal path from Stonehaven station south to the castle — the approach view across the geo is one of Scotland's most dramatic. Castle entry charge applies. Return inland via the war memorial.

One of Scotland's most dramatic castle ruins — a 13th-century fortress on an isolated sea stack 50m above the North Sea. The Honours of Scotland (the Crown Jewels) were hidden here during the English Civil War. Entry charge applies.

Fowlsheugh Seabird Colony
Mainland Britain's largest seabird colony — 130,000+ birds including guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and fulmars. Best visited May–July. RSPB reserve, 3km south of the castle.
